Our Travel Vlogging Gear
If you follow any full-time travel vloggers, you’ve surely noticed their extensive vlogging gear collections. Since we haven’t taken the plunge into full-time travelling or vlogging, you’ll find our gear list to be rather modest and low budget. We’ve had to get creative to utilize tools that we already had to make video that is of watchable quality, without breaking the bank (or our backs).
Apple iPhone 7
While we’d love to spend a couple thousand dollars on a dedicated Canon or Sony vlogging camera, our trusty old smart phone provides an excellent entry level vlogging tool that even shoots in 4K.
Takstar 698
In order to bump up the sound quality offered by the iPhone’s internal microphone, we upgraded to this Takstar 698 shotgun mic. It’s compact, but does a great job at reducing ambient noise and increasing overall sound quality. Compared to higher end products like the Rode Mic, it does a nice job at a lower price.
Wide Angle Lens w/ LED
Mirrorless and DSLR cameras have larger sensors than our iPhone, as well as lenses with larger apertures, providing more versatility and better function in lower light. To help offset our smartphone’s shortcomings, we added this handy little wide-angle lens with a batter powered LED array. This allows for easier arm’s length selfie vlogging and allows for better quality video in lower light areas.
